GOLF!

For the hubby's bday I decided to plan a bunch of his favorite things to do together.  Before we had kids golf was one of the things that we loved to do.  We'd golf every weekend and spend a lot of time at Nevada Bob's, Aloha Golf, Pro Am, and Roots n Relics.  I even golfed until I was 7 months pregnant and we named my daughter after Annika Sorenstam (hubby wanted to name our son Tiger!).  Since having kids golf has had to take a back seat.  It's so hard to find 5 hours of time plus a sitter for the kids.

In anticipation of today's round we went to the Driving Range a few nights ago.  Since the kids were with us I didn't get many swings in and I was a bit nervous.  I was able to hit my driver but didn't get much time in with my fairway woods or my irons.  My long game has never been a problem but I knew that anything within 100 yards would be a serious challenge!!!

We got up early this morning and ate a good breakfast.  We got to Hawaii Country Club very early.  I chose Hawaii Country Club for a number of reasons, sure it's cheap, but most of all we were guaranteed NOT to be paired with another twosome and the other golfers would be lax.  There was no way I was taking my pathetic game to a Club where we'd be rushed or scrutinized!!!  Thankfully, just as I remembered the club was very lax.  The Starter let us on 45 minutes early and we were off.

First tee, always nervous. Wasn't sure what to expect and glad no one was behind us watching.  I teed the ball up, took some practice swings and let it rip.  To my utter surprise the ball went straight and stopped about 20 yards from the green.  Yippppeee!  Luck is even better than skill when it comes to golf, and even if the rest of the round goes haywire, at least I hit one drive right!!!

The rest of the round went surprisingly great.  I managed to hit some greens in regulations, make a couple of pars, a birdie and only a few 5 overs (and one lost ball which bummed me out the most since the Callaway Hex Reds are discontinued and impossible to find) on my way to shooting a 100.  Hubby also shot his best round ever with a 79 and I noticed that he was playing way better than I had ever seen him play.

After we were done with our round we headed over to Auntie Pastos for some lunch and over our food we discussed our game.  We both agreed that our training had a huge impact on our game.  We felt stronger, were not bothered by the humidity, and were not at all fatigued.  In the past swinging the club a 100 times and walking after the balls we shanked would make us tired and by the back nine our balls would be flying all over the place because our swing was tired or our bodies sore.  Today this was not the case.  I was totally surprised at how well I plated in spite of zero practice.  It had to be the weight loss, muscle gain, increased athleticism, and excellent health running had given us.

And so the golf was amazing and we're sorta hooked again.  Since we're always training on Sundays and my parents watch the kids it will be hard to find time to get golf in.  However, we're sure to try.
