Great Aloha Run 2.18.13

Race season has begun!

I haven't been posting here for quite some time and in fact I never did post my Marathon recap. I'll try to be better about that this year.  In the meantime, completed my first race of 2013!

The Great Aloha Run http://www.greataloharun.com is an 8.1 mile run starting at Aloha Tower and ending at the Aloha Stadium.  It is one of our biggest races and boasted about 20,000 runners this year.

This is one of the first runs I ever completed in my 20s with my dad and it was the race I chose as my racing debut.  This race has always been sorta disastrous for me.  In my 20s I tripped and fell during a training run and sprained my ankle a few weeks before the race and last year I tripped and fell right before getting on the bus to get to the start line.  This year wasn't too different I got crazy sick the week prior to the race after taking care of my sick family (Type A Flu & pneumonia) for the last two weeks.

With a bad cough and general malaise I didn't get much training done this week so I had no expectations going into the race.  In fact, I was just hoping to get to the Finish Line in one piece without coughing up a lung.

All in all it was a good race.  According to the news, the wind gusts were 40 mph and the temperature was 69 degrees at the start of the race.  It was nice to run in cool weather as opposed to the normal humidity.  The only complaints I have was the whole bus boarding which was unbelievably disorganized this year, and the fact that we didn't get sweet bread after the race!!!  Other than that it was a fun time with friends and I even managed to snag a Personal Record for the race!!!
