At this time tomorrow I will have been running for about 4.5 hours on the North Shore roads. I have no idea where I will be but I am hoping somewhere near the end of the run!!!
I am spending this day taking it easy, cleaning the house, getting my things together, and will be running a couple of miles to my daughter's basketball game in a few. What I am trying NOT to do is psych myself out so much.
Now that I have one marathon under my belt I have the memories of the anguish inside of my head and I am doing my best to keep them locked away and focus on the excitement. That wasn't such a chore with marathon number one since it was all a mystery. It's definitely more of a challenge with marathon 2 but the fact that this is a different course is certainly a great help!!!
Running a marathon is more mental than physical so as the day progresses I will keep myself mentally in the game. This is a race that I chose to do for many different reasons. I wanted to challenge myself again and the North Shore is a special place for me. It's an area that feels like home and gives me a quiet calm. I am hoping to find that quiet calm while I am on the road tomorrow.
As far as training goes I know that I have trained just as hard for this marathon as I did for the Honolulu Marathon. With the Honolulu Marathon I trained for a whole year and kept to the Honolulu Marathon Clinic training with a long of 20 miles.
For this North Shore Marathon I had less time. I committed to the race in January, a month after the Honolulu Marathon and had just about 3 months to train. My longest run was logged at 16 miles a month ago but I incorporated some leg and core work into this training and did a lot more yoga classes this time around. I have put on some weight but all in all I feel physically ready.
Stay tuned for a race report in a couple of days and until then send some prayers my way for good weather and zero vog tomorrow!!!!
Van mommy soon to be on a very long run......
